This design, known as Snakeshead, was created by William Morris in 1876. The bold flame-like motif and alternating clusters of foliage give the illusion of floating, supported by intricate scrolling tendrils in the background. Inspired by Indian textiles, Morris favoured this design, named after the nodding snakehead fritillary flowers, for its vibrant colours and patterns.
