The North Carolina 38th Infantry Regiment completed its organization in January, 1862, at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, North Carolina.Its members were recruited in the counties of Duplin, Yadkin, Sampson, Richmond, Catawba, Alexander, Randolph, Cleveland, and Cumberland.
