Jacket Buying Guide - What To Look Out For
As the show must go on throughout the colder months, we’ve laid out some of the key things you should be looking out for when taking the plunge and buying yourself a new winter warmer.
Physical elements
Hoods: Not checking if a jacket has a hood is a really easy mistake to make. Check for substance over style here, a hood should be sturdy and comfortably cover your head.
Dropped hem: If you are particularly sensitive to the cold, a longer length jacket will help to insulate more of your body heat.
Pockets: You’ll NEVER regret choosing a jacket with pockets! Sports or hiking jackets should also offer additional compartments specific to the activity.
Zippers: If the zippers are stiff it’s a no-go, they should be smooth and should be protected by a closeable storm flap or tape, to prevent rain entry.
Fit Assistant
Jackets are cut differently depending on numerous factors – your gender, body shape, age and purpose of use all play a role.
Fit: Don’t be afraid to move about a little so you can properly gage if a jacket is fitting right. Lift your arms – is the jacket comfortable, covering your lower back and your wrists? These are all important factors we often forget to consider.
Keep in mind, if you’re shopping for a jacket with an active or specific technical fit then the jacket shouldn’t be too snug nor baggy as this may affect your performance. It’s also essential that outdoor activity jackets are 100% waterproof
